Bike-friendliness certification

πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Instruction manual for handling a certification for a bicycle-friendly school πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

🏫 Introduction

In relation to a bicycle-friendly school, eight main topics are addressed, covering both the infrastructure of the school premises, such as the school grounds or changing rooms/showers, and social aspects, such as awareness campaigns or incentive and reward systems. 🏫🚲

For each main category, there are several subchapters with criteria that must be met for the school to be considered bicycle-friendly.

Students should tour the school together with a school administrator to analyze and document the individual points. πŸ«πŸ”

πŸ”’ Scoring system

To determine whether a specific point is present or absent in the school, a score between zero and two is assigned:

  • 0️⃣ Zero means complete absence.
  • 1️⃣ One indicates that it is present but may not be in sufficient quantity and/or quality.
  • 2️⃣ Two means it is fully present with no need for improvements.

Some criteria are more important than others; therefore, various factors are taken into account when calculating the school’s overall score and certification level:

  • πŸŸ₯ Red = Coefficient 3: Indicates a criterion of high importance in the certification process.
  • 🟨 Yellow = Coefficient 2: Denotes moderate importance.
  • 🟩 Green = Coefficient 1: Considered as luxury.

πŸŽ– Certification levels

If the school reaches 248 points, congratulations! πŸŽ‰ You have achieved the goal of being a 100% bicycle-friendly school. The closer the number is to this value, the better the school's commitment to cycling and cyclists, and the less work is needed for improvements.

Additionally, we thought about a reward system:

  • πŸ₯‰ 50-69 points receive a Bronze Medal.
  • πŸ₯ˆ 70-119 points receive a Silver Medal.
  • πŸ₯‡ 120-199 points receive a Gold Medal.
  • πŸ† 200-248 points receive a Platinum Medal.

Our idea is that each criterion must be accompanied by a comment or justification and photos πŸ“Έ (as proof) to support the rating given by the students.
