Project

Project goals

The main goal was the development of an overall concept for schools, which want to become more bicycle-friendly. Each achieved switch-over from motorized vehicle to bicycle is a contribution to CO2 savings. The intention is to show other schools a way how to become more bicycle-friendly, respectively make cycling more attractive in the daily lives of students and teachers. This includes three main points. Firstly, the development and testing of a certification tool to audit a school towards bicycle-friendliness. Secondly, the elaboration of didactic material regarding the health & safety aspects of cycling, and thirdly, the development of a measuring system that can be attached to a bicycle. This device called AirScout is used to measure air quality/pollutant levels while riding, and it makes possible to identify low pollution cycling routes.

In addition, the project promotes soft skills, social inclusion and social diversity via workshops and social activities in mixed groups. Via communication and dissemination, it’s possible to present the progress as well as the results of the project. The work was done in several steps. The very first one was to consider specific project activities at each school, followed by face-to-face project planning meeting between the teachers. The third phase included coordination and planning meetings with students and teachers via Teams. The four working and exchange face-to-face meetings in Almeria, Sindelfingen, Ettelbruck and St. Pölten were important milestones. Hospitation as well as exchange meetings with external partners took place, as well. Internal communication was done via Teams and twinspace, external communication followed via main social media channels, websites and twinspace.
