What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. This project called Greenmobility@school was conducted as a short-term mobility project, starting in October 2023 and ending in March 2025.

Project

The project focuses on three main aspects. Firstly, the development of a certification tool to audit schools towards bicycle-friendliness. Secondly, the elaboration of didactic health & safety material regarding to cycling. Thirdly, the development of a measuring system that can be attached to a common bicycle to identify pollution on cycling routes.

AirScout

The AirScout is a measuring system to capture environmental parameters including NOx, CO2, particulate matter, temperature, humidity and air pressure along bicycle routes by attaching a measuring box to a common bike. Measuring GPS-coordinates allows the assignment of measured values to specific spots on a map.

Bike-friendliness certification

Fulfilling a certification requires the implementation of certain criteria and standards. When it comes to a bike-friendly school, eight main topics are addressed, such as school grounds, safety, changing rooms/showers, bike repair, bike rental and awareness.

Health & Safety

Health & safety is an important topic on riding bikes. Therefore, teaching materials and quizzes regarding these aspects by the usage of bikes were created. We have run two workshops on this topic, which include the use of the Airscout systems developed by the different schools during the project.
